LUCKNOW: The Congress leadership and cadres are rallying for Uttar Pradesh state president Ajay Kumar Lallu’s immediate across mediums.
On Tuesday, party national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra posted a video on her Twitter handle stating, “Having lived a life of struggle, perseverance and grit, UP Congress President Shri. Ajay Kumar Lallu knows well the suffering of displaced and marginalised people.

He has fought for them steadfastly throughout his career.”

Posting an extended comment with #ReleaseAjayLallu, Priyanka added: “throwing him into prison on baseless charges during a pandemic reveals the undemocratic and single mindedly opportunistic mindset of the Yogi Government and violates all humanitarian principles.”
Lallu is in jail on connection with the buses for migrants’ row between Congress and UP government. He was arrested twice – first in Agra where he sat on a demonstration to protest delay in granting of permission to allow entry of buses in state. He was allowed to go after bail.
But before he could leave, he was re-arrested in connection with the Congress' standoff with the state government. He was sent to judicial custody thereafter.

Congress has been calling Lallu’s arrest as a politically motivated move aimed at harassing those raising a voice for the poor migrants.
Senior leader PL Punia also attacked the UP government for the arrest of Ajay Kumar Lallu, claiming he has been punished for serving poor labourers.
“The Yogi government is doing injustice to our leader and this will not be tolerated. We demand justice for him and will continue to fight until it is delivered,” he said.
Congress legislature party leader Aradhana Mishra Mona said that Lallu was being mentally harassed by Yogi government.
"The way UP government is treating a two-time MLA is undemocratic and uncalled for. In fact the government had stooped so low that they lodged Lallu in a cell with criminals and is being tortured mentally. Also, the charges levelled against are liable for punishment upto life imprisonment and all this for helping migrants," she said.
Earlier senior congress leader Rajiv Shukla said: “The entire act of putting him in jail shows the high high-handedness of the Adityanath led government.”
Likewise, Congress working committee member Jitin Prasada alleged that the UP government is misusing lockdown. “UP government is misusing lockdown to corner the opposition parties who cannot assemble and agitate at the moment. But as and when the lockdown is lifted, the Congress and its workers will not leave any stone unturned,” he said in a video posted on Twitter handle.

Congress cadres also circulated a video in which Ajay Kumar Lallu’s parents Shivnath Prasad and Shanti Devi said that they were proud of their son. “Yogiji, we are not scared of police case. My son has faced canes and gone to jail for the poor and this is what the suit-boot lobby doesn’t like about him. We are proud of him,” the father said.
