Burglary gang from Bihar busted; 4 held, jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh recovered
Lucknow: Sarojini Nagar police on Tuesday busted a family-run interstate burglary gang from Bihar, arrested four individuals, and recovered jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh and other valuables from their possession.
The gang allegedly surveyed locked homes during the day, struck at night with cloth tied around their faces, and even stole CCTV DVRs to erase the evidence.
“Four members of the same family including two brothers, one of their wives and a nephew were arrested, and the recovered items included jewellery worth nearly ₹30 lakh, cash, a stolen Bullet motorcycle, a scooter, a television set and a DVR unit,” said ADCP South Zone, Vasanth Kumar.
According to police, the accused family originally hails from Bihar’s Kaimur district, and lived at a rented accommodation in Lucknow’s Nadarganj area.
They were allegedly linked to multiple house thefts reported in Sarojini Nagar and adjoining areas.
Assistant commissioner of police, Krishna Nagar, Rajneesh Kumar, said the gang frequently changed rented accommodations to avoid detection and lived lavishly despite having no steady source of income.
The arrests came after police teams and the southern zone surveillance unit analysed nearly 200 to 250 CCTV footages and other electronic evidence while probing three burglary cases registered between Feb and May this year.
Officials said several criminal cases, including theft and NDPS Act cases, were already registered against some members of the gang in Lucknow.
“The accused have been sent to judicial custody while further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in other unsolved burglaries across the city,” said the ACP.
