Assam squad bags six gold medals in taekwondo meet

Lucknow: Assam players won six gold medals on the first day of the 40th National Taekwondo Championships and the 26th National Poomsae Taekwondo Championship being held at KD Singh Babu Indoor Stadium here.
Akarsh Verma of Uttar Pradesh too bagged a gold medal in the 23 kg category. Hosts Uttar Pradesh’s Prakhya Yadav, Navya Singh and Vaishali Kashyap bagged silver medals, while Jhanvi Verma and Zaina Fahima won bronze medals on Friday.
Earlier, finance minister Suresh Khanna and special guest of All India Udyog Vyapar Mandal Sandeep Bansal inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional lamp.Jimmy R. Jagtiani, founder of taekwondo in India, also addressed the gathering on the occasion.tnn
