8 railway stations of Amethi district renamed

The railway ministry has renamed eight railway stations in Amethi district as per a proposal by former MP Smriti Irani. The Home Ministry approved the changes in March. New names include Jais City and Guru Gorakhnath Dham. The renaming was delayed due to Lok Sabha elections but was officially notified on Tuesday.

LUCKNOW: The railway ministry on Tuesday renamed eight railway stations of Amethi district.
A proposal was sent to ministry of Home Affair by former MP of Amethi Smriti Irani earlier in the month February, following which in the month of March, MHA gave its nod to rename the Kasimpur Halt as Jais City, Jais as Guru Gorakhnath Dham, Bani as Swami Paramhans, Misrauli as Maa Kalikan Dham, Nihalgarh as Maharaja Bijli Pasi, Akabarganj as Maa Ahorwa Bhawani Dham, Warisganj as Amar Shahid Bhale Sultan and Fursatganj as Tapeshwarnath Dham.

"Due to the model code of conduct during Lok Sabha elections, the renaming of the railway stations was not implemented, but on Tuesday, the railway ministry finally issued notification about the changes. Soon the railway CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) will also update the renamed railway stations. ," said senior divisional commercial manager, Rekha Sharma of Lucknow division, northern railways.
