ALAPPUZHA: S Suhas, an IAS officer from Bengaluru, took charge as the new district collector of Alappuzha on Thursday. Suhas, who was the collector at Wayanad and belongs to the 2012 batch of IAS, is the 49th collector of Alappuzha. Before he was posted in Wayanad, he was the sub collector in Fort Kochi and assistant collector in Ernakulam.
His various initiatives for the upliftment of the tribal community got wide appreciation from various groups.
He started a programme in Wayanad to meet 10 tribal chieftains every month to identify and tackle various issues they face. He also executed various projects for bringing back tribal students to schools and he also took the tribal students for a metro ride in Kochi. Suhas, who is an electronics and communications engineering graduate, got into the shoes for civil servant, though he had offers to pursue higher education in top universities like Maryland University and University of California with scholarships.
Suhas wife Vaishnavi Gowda is a doctor.
