Five DYFI activists, including a state committee member, who are accused of beating up three security staff at the Kozhikode Government Medical College and attacking a journalist, surrendered before the police on Tuesday.

KOZHIKODE: Five DYFI activists, including a state committee member, who are accused of beating up three security staff at the Kozhikode Government Medical College and attacking a journalist, surrendered before the police on Tuesday.
The accused included the first accused and DYFI district joint secretary and state committee member Arun K (34), along with local DYFI activists Ashin AK (24), hailing from Chevayoor, Rajesh K (43), residing near Guruvayurappan College, and Mohammed Shabeer (32), hailing from Mayanad.

The accused surrendered at Nadakkavu police station after the district sessions court dismissed their anticipatory bail plea. They were taken to the Medical College police station, where the case is registered.
The accused had beaten up three security personnel on duty at the medical college on August 31. They also assaulted journalist P Shamsudheen of the Madhyamam daily, who had tried to film the attack.
