KOTTAYAN: A woman sub-inspector, Shanti K Babu, and her police team were physically assaulted while attempting to arrest a man linked to a 2013 assault case in
Kerala's Kottayam.
The incident occurred when they went to the accused's residence in compliance with a court warrant, following specific instructions from the district police chief. Upon arrival at the accused's home, he adamantly refused to cooperate with the officers, aggressively shouting at them.
In response, the police attempted to take him into custody by force.
Television channels broadcast visuals of the incident, which showed the accused, identified as V G Sreedharan, grabbing the sub-inspector by her hair and striking her on the back as the officers tried to escort him out of his house. The officers eventually immobilized his arms and escorted him to a waiting police vehicle.
The police have identified Sreedharan as a suspect in a case involving the assault of a woman in his neighborhood back in 2013. It was noted that he had previously driven away police officers who came with warrants by using profane language and aggressive behavior.
