KOLKATA: A municipality dumper was set on fire at Park Circus on Tuesday afternoon after the vehicle dashed a cyclist coming from the opposite direction. The cyclist - a 14-year-old boy - has been admitted to National Medical College and Hospital, but no major injuries were reported.
Around noon, the dumper of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation was plying at Circus Avenue and the incident took place at the crossing of Congress Exhibition Road and Nasiruddin Road.

"The truck was heading towards Park Circus and suddenly a cycle from opposite direction came in front of the truck," said an investigator. The driver of the truck had no way to swing the vehicle off the cycle and it dashed the cyclist Mohammad Riyazuddin, a boy from Beniapukur slum.
The cyclist got stuck with an iron buffer of the truck and he was dragged nearly 100 yards. The truck then stopped close to the AJC Bose flyover, leaving the boy injured on the road. The driver and the cleaner of the dumper fled the spot immediately. Locals gave a chase but the duo managed to escape.
Though the boy's injury was nothing major, locals turned violent as soon as they spotted the vehicle near the AJC Bose Road flyover. They torched the dumper instantly, even before police could reach the spot. The vehicle was almost gutted before fire brigade arrived.
A huge police force rushed to the spot from neighbouring Karaya and Beniapukur police station to bring the situation under control. Traffic movement was disrupted on the east flank of the flyover for almost an hour. Police claimed they have identified the miscreants, but nobody was arrested till late Tuesday night.
