JALPAIGURI: After a long time, the Left Front is finding the going tough for them in Alipurduar constituency where RSP heavyweight and PWD minsiter Kshiti Goswami is their candidate.
Left has won all the assembly and parliamentary polls here since 1977. This probably explains why Goswami was shifted from the now defunct Dhakuria constituency to this seat.
1x1 polls
When RSP dumped sitting MLA Nirmal Das for Goswami, there was an intern squabbles. Das had won in the 2006 polls by 38,000 votes. But the political scenario has changed beyond recognition since then. Local people feel that RSP's decision to field Goswami may come a cropper.
Moreover, the Congress candidate D P Roy is seen as a formidable person with contacts in Delhi, which will work in his favour.
