KOLKATA: Eight-year-old Janata Middya finally went home with her parents on Thursday. The chief judicial magistrate of Howrah Court, Sunirmal Dutta, ordered that the girl employed in DIG Basudeb Bag's home be sent home to her parents. The child's father, Bangshi, had appealed to the court that he be allowed to get his child's custody.
Home secretary Ardhendu Sen said at Writers' Buildings that a case has been started at Sankrail PS against Bag.
"He has been asked to go on leave till further orders," Sen said. DGP Sujit Sarkar has been asked to depute a senior officer to supervise the case. Two charges have been levelled against Bag employing a minor maid and torturing her. Each offence is punishable with three years' imprisonment. "There will be a departmental inquiry alongside the police inquiry," Sen added. If Bag retires before the completion of inquiry, the government will make deductions from his pension.
