Kolhapur: Two people were arrested from Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Railway Terminus on Monday afternoon on the charge of possessing 262 counterfeit currency notes of Rs 500 denomination with a face value of 1.3 lakh.
Police said one of the arrested was found to be seller, while another the buyer. "Rahul Prakash Kirugade (33) from Padli Khurd village in Karvir tehsil and Guru Rajendra Mengane (23) of Gajbarwadi village in Nipani tehsil of Karnataka were arrested with fake currency notes with the face value of Rs 1.31 lakh. They have been booked under sections 178, 179 and 180 of BNS," police said.
Police said the suspects told them that the deal was to exchange three fake notes of Rs 500 with one original note of Rs 500. "Kirugade is a painter and Mengane is a daily wage worker," police added.
