HC admits suo moto PIL over ‘sorry state of affairs’ over public toilets and urinals
Kolhapur: Bombay HC's Kolhapur bench has initiated a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) over the sorry state of affairs of the existing public toilets and urinals in Kolhapur city. The HC has taken cognizance of a news report in a language daily that highlighted the issue.The bench of Justice Nitin B Suryawanshi and Justice Ajit B Kadethankar on Feb 25 appointed Aditya A Raktade as Amicus Curie-adocte to assist the court."Thousands of devotees come to Kolhapur city for Darshan of Ambabai. However, there are no adequate public toilets and urinals because of which people have to go to lodges. Prima facie from the news item it appears that Kolhapur Municipal Corporation is failing in its duty to provide essential civic amenities likes public toilets and urinals to the citizens and public at large," observed the court.The court has directed to the amicus curiae to prepare proper PIL petition. On behalf of KMC, advocate Abhijit Adgule has been asked to take necessary instructions on behalf of KMC.
