Kolhapur: A 44-year-old gym trainer from Jambhali village, near Jaysingpur town in Kolhapur, was hacked to death by unknown people on Wednesday night, the police said.
Sandip Patil had locked his gym and was returning home when the attackers, who were hiding and waiting for him, stopped him along the Jambhali-Jaysingpur road and attacked him with metal rods and blunt objects, the police said. Doctors said Patil was brought dead and died due to deep injuries to his head.
Amol Thakur, the sub-divisional police officer, said, "The attack took place at 8.30pm. We reached the spot immediately. We are close to arresting the attackers. The motive is yet to be ascertained, but there are a few angles we are working on. There were three to four attackers. The victim died on the spot. His brother lodged the complaint."
According to the police, the attackers left their SUV at the crime scene after it got stuck in a trench and could not be taken out. The attackers also left their mobile phones inside the SUV, and the police called the forensic investigation team to collect evidence.
After the primary investigation, the police zeroed in on some suspects and deployed teams to detain them.
