Kochi: Syro-Malabar church on Monday observed St Thomas Day and various programmes were held at Mount St Thomas, the headquarters of the church at Kakkanad. The church celebrates the day as Syro Malabar Church Day as well.
Speaking at a mass held on Monday, Major Archbishop of the church cardinal Alencherry said the faithful should stay close to the church not only during the time of prosperity but also during crisis.
The cardinal said that this year’s observation was more important since the focus of this year’s celebration was the centenary of the establishment of the Syro-Malabar hierarchy.
A resolution was passed in the public gathering held on Monday which stated that the central and state governments should take proactive measures to end the communal
riots going on in
Manipur for the past two months. It said that safety of all communities should be ensured and peaceful situations should be brought back.
Earlier in the day, Curia Bishop of the church Mar Sebastian Vaniapurackal hoisted the flag at the church headquarters. tnn
