KOCHI: A controversy arose on Tuesday after the mark list released by Maharaja's College declared that SFI state secretary PM Arsho, who did not appear for third semester exams, had passed.
Arsho is a student of integrated programme in archaeology and material cultural studies at the college. Following this, the result of third semester, which was published online in March, was withdrawn.
KSU members staged a protest at Maharaja's College after releasing printed copies of a mark list in which Arsho's total credit point was given as zero; but the result said he had 'passed'. They staged a sit-in protest in front of the principal's office alleging that the incident was evidence of a parallel system that was working in favour of SFI leaders in colleges across
Kerala.
Principal VS Joy said it was a technical error on the part of National Informatics Centre (NIC), which handles the software used to enter and publish exam results. "It was a technical software error. Such errors have happened before and we had informed NIC too. Once students pointed out the error, we withdrew the results and the error will be rectified," he said. But, KSU leadership said blaming NIC was unacceptable and alleged that the college was trying to help Arsho clear exams. They pointed out that the mark list didn't even mention credit points scored in various papers. They demanded the resignation of the controller of exams and an enquiry in this case.
Arsho alleged that KSU had forged the result. "I didn't appear for exams as I wasn't in Ernakulam. The screenshots of a result circulated aren't mine as I wrote the third semester exam in 2020, not 2021 as mentioned in the circulated ones," he said. Minister R Bindu, who said she wasn't aware of this row, said appropriate action will be taken against those who fabricated documents.
