School science fair: Palakkad wins overall championship

Kochi: Palakkad district won the overall championship as the four-day state school science fair (Kerala State School Sasthrolsavam 2022) concluded in Kochi on Saturday. Palakkad, which maintained the lead from day one, secured 1,383 points. The second and third places were secured by Malappuram (1,350) and Kannur (1,338).
Fathima Matha Girls HSS Koompanpara, Idukki, became the overall school champion with 120 points, followed by Durga HSS Kanhangad, Kasaragod (117) and GVHSS Mananthavady, Wayanad (113).
The valedictory function of the fair, held at Ernakulam Town Hall, was inaugurated by industries minister P Rajeev and the prizes for the winners were distributed by transport minister Antony Raju.
Rajeeve said the winners of the science fair will be given separate training as many of the innovations presented by the students would be useful in future. He said the training will be held at Maker Village in Kalamassery, which is an electronic hardware incubator and Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) facility.
“Efforts have begun to include entrepreneurship as a subject in the curriculum. The situation in Kerala is conducive for even students who come with innovative ideas to start their own entrepreneurships,” Rajeeve said.
Antony Raju said emerging technologies like artificial intelligence too will be given importance in school curriculum. The valedictory function was presided over by Kochi mayor M Anilkumar. Jeby Mather MP released a souvenir of the fair and director of general education Jeevan Babu presented the fair analysis.
PV Sreenijin MLA, deputy mayor KA Ansiya, deputy director of education Honey G Alexander, higher secondary regional deputy director Abdul Kareem, vocational higher secondary assistant director Lissie Joseph and several division councilors were present.
While Govt HSS Konni won the overall championship, Mambaram HSS, Kannur and RRVGHSS Kilimanoor, secured second and third places respectively.
In the social science fair, St Augustine`s Girls HSS, Kothamangalam, became champions, while BYKVHSS, Valavannur, emerged on top in the Mathematics fair. In the work experience fair, and in the IT Fair, Durga HSS Kanhangad, and TIHSS Naimarmoola, Kasaragod topped the list.
