KOCHI: Police have arrested one Antony Kurien (34) of Vypeen for creating fake profiles of film personalities like scriptwriter Benny P Nayarambalam and director Aashiq Abu on a social networking site and interacting with public by impersonating as them.
Maradu police said Kurien, a photographer by profession, had created fake Facebook accounts of Benny P Nayarambalam two years ago.

He had befriended businessmen, politicians and even senior police officers through the networking site, they said.
"He had interacted with people through chat by impersonating as the script writer and replied to their doubts on the film industry. More than 100 persons sent friend requests to the profile, thinking that it was Benny's account," an officer said.
Police said Kurien was mainly interested in befriending women. The incident came to light after a housewife in Vyttila contacted Benny through one of her friends in the film industry. The scriptwriter had lodged a complaint with Maradu police.
The accused was trapped with the help of the woman. "He was arrested by policemen in mufti when he came to meet the woman at Subhash Park. When interrogated, he said he had also created fake profiles of Aashiq Abu and a doctor in the city," the officer said.
