Thrissur:
Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) has assured support to the medical colleges, which have been denied 'continuation of recognition for MBBS degree courses' by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The University authorities had convened a meeting of the principals of the colleges' Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur, Dr Somervell Memorial CSI Hospital, Karakonam, SUT Academy of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram and Sree Gokulam Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram which have been denied continued recognition by the NMC.
Speaking after the meeting KUHS Vice Chancellor Dr Mohanan Kunnummal, a member of the NMC, said the colleges have been asked to submit the appeal and detailed compliance report at the earliest. Dr Kunnummal said that he would take up the issue at the next NMC meeting scheduled in New Delhi on May 14. He said SUTAMS had gone in an appeal to the NMC, and they had already been granted permission to restore 50 of their 100 MBBS seats in 2023-'24.
