Kochi: Four-kg of ganja was seized from Ernakulam Town railway station on Friday during an inspection jointly conducted by crime intelligence Thiruvananthapuram, RPF Ernakulam North and excise enforcement Ernakulam.
After the Visakhapatnam Weekly Express departed from Ernakulam Town station, 4kg of cannabis hidden inside a computer CPU in a bag under a bench on the second platform was seized by the officials. It is believed that the cannabis, worth around Rs two lakh in the market, was brought to sell among migrant workers. However, the person who brought the cannabis likely abandoned the bag upon seeing the police on the platform, according to RPF officials.
Under the special instructions of RPF divisional security commissioner Mohammed Hanif, the joint inspection will continue rigorously in connection with the assembly elections. As part of the special inspections conducted in connection with the assembly elections, RPF seized 50kg of cannabis in March along the stretch between Thrissur and Kottayam. tnn
