KANPUR: On the occasion of
Mangal Pandey’s 158th birth anniversary, the members of an NGO remembered the great Indian soldier, who played a key role in the Indian freedom struggle.
They garlanded the statue of the freedom fighter installed in Nanarao Park on Sunday.
The members bathed the statue with Gangajal and recalled his gallant deeds in 1857. Pandey was the first, who raised voice against the British.
He was a valiant warrior whose contribution in the freedom struggle is unforgettable.
Mangal Pandey was a sepoy in the 34th Bengal Native Infantry (BNI) Regiment of the British East India Company. He is regarded as a hero in the country. In 1984, the government issued a postage stamp to commemorate him.
