Retd Armyman found dead in drain; probe on
Kanpur: A 44-year-old retired Army personnel, Sarvesh Kumar Singh, was found dead in a drain near Rawatpur railway station in Kanpur on Saturday. His body bore multiple injuries, including fractured arms and severe wounds on his legs, head, and face. The family suspects foul play, believing he was murdered and then dumped in the drain. However, authorities think the incident might have occurred while Singh was getting on or off the train.
Singh, a resident of Rampur Baiju Bhawaniganj in Kannauj, had retired from the Army in Meerut and later worked as a security personnel supervisor at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, residing on the LLR campus premises. On Saturday morning, he set out on a train journey to Kannauj, during which the tragic incident occurred.
Meanwhile, the family members alleged that some miscreants killed him before dumping his body in the drain. While his pistol and ammunition were found from the scene, his mobile phone was missing.
The GRP Anwarganj has sent the body for post-mortem to establish the cause of death.
Contradicting the family's claims, the GRP Anwarganj asserted that the incident occurred while the deceased was either boarding or alighting from the train. The authorities are currently reviewing the available CCTV footage to determine from where he boarded the train to Kannauj.
