Burglars break into jeweller’s shop, steal valuables worth 1.25 crore
Kanpur: Burglars stole valuables worth around Rs 1.25 crore after breaking into a residence-cum-jewellery shop late on Monday night in Nawabganj area of the city.
The Nawabganj police have launched an investigation in the case.
The property belongs to Jugal Kishore, who lives with his wife Naina and children, Kunj and Vivan, in a three-storey building on Nawabganj's Sarrafa Bazaar main road. Their jewellery business operates from the first floor.
On the night of the incident, Harishankar had gone to his sister-in-law Kajal's residence in the Gumti area. His wife Naina was staying at her sister Kajal's house since Dec 28 to take care of her during pregnancy. Jugal Kishore usually used to visit them after business hours and returned home tonight. However, on Monday night, after closing the shop, he stayed there on his wife's request due to the harsh weather conditions. On returning next morning, Jugal Kishore discovered the shop and bedroom in complete disorder. Investigation revealed that the thieves entered the house through an adjacent vacant plot, after breaking through the grill.
They stole cash worth Rs 3-4 lakh and jewellery valued at approximately Rs 1.20 crore. The police are exmining the CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator.
Deputy commissioner of police Central Dinesh Tripathi said, "The police have started an investigation. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and the forensic team and dog squad are collecting evidence on-site."
