Jodhpur: Governor Kalraj Mishra said on Saturday that commercialisation and focus on high production has turned agriculture non-profitable. Mishra was the chief guest at the 5th convocation ceremony of the Agriculture University, where he laid emphasis on the need to develop a mechanism where agriculture is profitable for the entire country.
Mishra presented 165 graduate degrees, 18 post-graduate degrees, 3 PhDs and 8 gold medals to toppers. While addressing the audience, he said that the university should work on preserving soil fertility, developing modern versions of indigenous seeds and climate-based agriculture while conserving the traditional wisdom of Indian farming. He also laid stress on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in every component of agriculture to make it less dependent on manual processes and enhance farm operations’ efficiency.
“AI helps in selecting appropriate seeds in alignment with the weather or climate conditions in specific region. It also helps farmers with weather forecast data. Thus, AI helps in enhanced production,” said Mishra.
