JAMSHEDPUR: It was a close shave for many children and trainee pilots at the Sonari area here on Monday when a Chinese 'manja' of kites being flown by the children got entangled with a plane.
A major accident was averted and about four children sustained minor injuries in the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, children were flying kites on Monday as usual from the Nirmal Mahato Stadium when one of their Chinese made strings got entangled with a plane trying to land at the Sonari airport.
Kite flying is banned near the airport but hardly anyone cares for the rules, posing a problem for the pilots and trainees. Children are usually seen flying kites in the morning and evening hours.
Mrinal Pal, the director of Alchemist Aviation Private Limited, which offers training to pilots at the Sonari airport, said kite flying near the airstrip is going on for a long time and it should be stopped as it is a major problem for the pilots.
