Jaipur: The Ajmer administration, in collaboration with a Mumbai-based charitable trust, on Monday laid the foundation stone for installation of two lifts, which will cost Rs 1 crore, at the Brahma temple in Pushkar. The 17 steps up to the medieval temple are quite steep and slippery, posing difficulty to devotees.
MP Mansinghka Charities, the charitable trust, has donated around Rs 1 crore for the construction of the structure and installation of the two lifts.
The contract for the construction of the structure and lift installation has also been given to architects and contractors hired by the MP Mansinghka Charities.
The chairman of the charities, MP Mansinghka (96), resolved to install lifts at the Brahma temple when, during his visit to the temple on November 23, 2019, he saw that his 86-year-old younger brother and other elderly people as well as the specially-abled were unable to get a
darshan of the deity as they could not climb the steep stairs of the temple.
In 2018, then President
Ram Nath Kovind had to offer prayers from the temple steps as his wife was unable to climb up to the sanctum sanctorum due to knee problems.
Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra and ex-Governor Kalyan Singh also had to offer prayers from the steps.
The district administration has received permission from the department of archaeology to build lifts at the temple for the convenience of elderly and specially-abled devotees. Peethadhishwar Shyamsharan Devacharya Shreeji Maharaj laid the foundation stone of the two lifts on Monday. The construction work will be completed in 6 months.
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation president
Dharmendra Rathore, Ajmer MP Bhagirath Chowdhary, Pushkar MLA
Suresh Singh Rawat and district collector Bharti Dixit were present during the foundation stone laying ceremony.
Earlier, Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission (RSHRC) had issued a notice to the management of the Brahma temple over difficulties that specially-abled devotees faced in getting darshan of the deity. RSHRC issued the notice after a complaint was filed by Hemant Bhai Goyal, president of Divyang Adhikar Mahasangh (DAM), who also filed a petition in this regard at the court of the commissioner for persons with disabilities.
