JODHPUR: In a major mobile phone heist, the thieves decamped with expensive mobile phones worth Rs 25 lakh from a famous mobile shop of the city on Tuesday night. Though, the shop had CCTV cameras installed but they were switched off. Now police is trying to crack the case by way of the finger prints.
According to the Shastri Nagar police, some thieves struck a famous mobile shop Space Electronics, located opposite the S N Medical College on Tuesday night.
“When the staff of the shop reached the shop on Wednesday morning, they found the locks broken and shutter of the shop tampered with. The staff members immediately informed the shop owner, who rushed to the shop and informed the police”, said the police.
The thieves took enough time in the shop and selected only the expensive mobile phones. They unpacked them from the boxes and fled with the phones worth approximately Rs. 25 lakh leaving their boxes scattered in the shop.
The shop had the CCTV cameras installed in it but they were found shut. According to the shop owner Vasudev, all these cameras were connected to the generator set and while leaving at night, the generator set was turned off resulting into the cameras also turning off.
“Now we have lifted the finger prints from the shop and trying to identify the thieves matching them with our bank”, said an official.
This is the second major heist in the city where the thieves have stolen the expensive mobile phones of such a massive value. Before this, in a similar incident, mobile phones worth Rs. 30 lakh had been stolen from another big shop in Minerva Shopping Center last year. Police, however, had failed to crack this case.
