Forest and environment minister Sukhram Vishnoi informed that the state government will consider banning sale of peacock feathers as these birds are being killed for feathers. He was replying to a question in the assembly by Congress MLA Bharat Singh Kundanpur. A day earlier, 29 peacocks died after consuming poisonous food grains in Nagaur district.
The Congress MLA pointed out that peacocks are being killed by people for meat and feathers. The incidents of death of peacock have been reported in the state quite frequently. This could be addressed only if the government takes strong measures like banning sale of peacock feathers. He asked whether the government considering banning the sale of peacock feathers as it encourages poaching of the national bird. The minister replied in the affirmative.
