Jaipur: The National Human Rights Commission (
NHRC) has sent notices to the
Rajasthan government and the state's police chief over the alleged gangrape and murder of a Dalit woman in Bikaner district.
As per a statement released on Wednesday, the commission has sought the responses within four weeks.
The NHRC has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that a 21-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped and killed by three persons, including two police personnel, on June 20, mentioned the notice.
The commission has observed that the content of the media report, if true, amounts to the violation of the human rights of the victim by those responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the citizens.
As per the notice, the report should also include the present status of the investigation being conducted by the police, departmental action taken against public servants, and the arrest of the third accused, it added.
