The halt echoes the April 2025 drive, when JDA’s widening plan on Lt General Sagat Singh Marg—from Jharkhand Mod to the 200-feet Bypass—stalled despite a major drive that razed around 274 structures. The road has still not been widened because about 11 property owners obtained court stays.
“The situation has remained the same even after a year. The road has not been widened yet. We cannot increase breadth of the stretch until all those remaining structures are removed,” a JDA official said.
The delays have fuelled fears in Nandpuri colony, where residents cite the earlier Khatipura outcome as a warning. Bharu Marg resident Kailash Meena, who said he lost about 150 sq yard of land in the recent drive, said, “JDA has failed to remove all the structures. We are not sure whether they would be able to increase the breadth of Bharu Marg.”
Jaipur: Two days after fortifying Bharu Marg and bringing much of the city to a grinding halt with a mobile internet suspension, JDA has now paused the demolition of about nine remaining structures on Bharu Marg after property owners secured court stay orders, casting a web of uncertainty over the proposed road-widening project.
Residents whose properties were demolished last year said they are now facing an uncertain future. President of the local traders’ association in Khatipura, Bhawani Singh Rathore, said, “I have lost my shops and yet, I don’t have access to a wider road. To add to our troubles, the debris is still intact.”
JDA officials said they expect progress after the next court date. “The hearing in the matter is scheduled for next week. We hope the court will allow us to proceed with the removal of the remaining structures as well,” a senior JDA official said.
