JAIPUR: Three youths from Muktsar district of
Punjab on Sunday died in a road accident near Hanumangarh after some stray cattle came in front of their vehicle. The driver of the car swerved the car to avoid hitting the cattle and rammed into a tree.
According to the police, the accident took place at 2 am when five friends from Punjab were headed towards Salasar temple near Churu.
"The cattle suddenly came in front of their car near Khola town. To avoid ramming into the cattle, the driver veered left and rammed into a tree. Three people died on the spot. Two were severely injured and rushed to the hospital," a police officer added.
The deceased have been identified as Nitin Teria, Saurabh Pruthi and Bhushan Gowri. The trio was killed on the spot. The injured, Saurabh Pathela and Manish Khurana, were rushed to the district government hospital in Hanumangarh. They were later referred to a hospital in Punjab for further treatment. According Pushpender Singh, SHO, Hanumangarh, the five were on their way to Salasar Balaji temple to participate in some religious festival. "Cattle trying to cross the road came in front of their car. The driver applied brakes, but the car overturned and hit a tree," he added.
Police added that the car was completely smashed and the three people sitting in the back seat died on the spot. Villagers rescued the injured, called up the ambulance and informed police. "The villagers of Khola managed to take the injured duo out of the car and informed us. It was a difficult task to take out the bodies. The injured are out of danger and undergoing treatment at a hospital in Punjab," a police officer said.
Meanwhile, police said that they have handed over the bodies of the deceased to the family members after conducting post-mortem.
