INDORE: Violence erupted during the vote-counting process in the Shajapur district headquarters on Sunday, as Congress supporters engaged in stone-pelting with their BJP counterparts.
The clash unfolded near the ITI ground on the old AB road, just outside the Lalghati police station jurisdiction around 3 pm. Prompt police intervention prevented a full-scale confrontation between the two political factions.
According to Sanjay Verma, the in-charge of Lalghati police station, BJP supporters had gathered outside the counting center to celebrate their leader when approximately two hundred Congress supporters arrived and initiated the stone-pelting.

Law enforcement quickly stepped in, using mild force to prevent further escalation. Teargas shells were deployed to disperse the crowd and restore order in the area, as recounted by Verma.
The electoral race in Shajapur had been intensely contested, with Congress candidate Hukum Singh Karada trailing behind BJP's Arun Bhimawat by a margin of 151 votes. In response to the narrow gap, the Congress party called for a recount of the votes.
