Barwani: A gun runner was arrested on Sunday and five illegal country-made firearms along with other items were seized in Niwali police station area of Barwani district.
Niwali police station in-charge RK Lovanshi told TOI that a tip-off was received about a suspicious person roaming near Sidri Phata on Palsud Road, on a motorcycle without a registration number. Acting on it, the police team reached the spot, cordoned off the area, and apprehended the suspect, Kripal Singh Takrana, a resident of Undi Khodri under Palsud police station of the district.
A search led to the recovery of five country-made pistols (estimated value Rs 75,000), a mobile phone, a motorcycle without registration (Rs 2.5 lakh approx.), a bag, and Rs 1,000 in cash, he said.
He said the accused used Instagram to conduct deals and was on his way to Maharashtra via Khetiya town (situated on MH border) to supply weapons to a contact.
The accused was produced before the court, which sent him on police remand.
Police said preliminary investigation suggests that the accused was allegedly involved in illegal arms trafficking and may have been planning a major crime.
