INDORE: With the arrest of a youth hailing from Ujjain district, the Indore police crime branch have busted a fake vehicle insurance policy racket, which had duped over 40 vehicle owners in Indore and neighbouring districts by issuing fake insurance policies in the name of Reliance General Insurance Company (Indore).
Acting on a complaint by the deputy manager of the insurance company's Indore branch deputy manager Rajendra Chabra, the Indore police crime branch arrested on Tuesday, 25-year-old Sumit Luhadiya (a resident of Mahaveer Avenue-Ujjain) who was running the racket with his partner Vinay Jain.
The duo were running the office of the reputed insurance company in Siddhi Vinayak Trade Centre-Shaheed Park in Ujjain and had issued 43 fake and expired accident insurance policies in last 2-3 years to vehicle owners, duping them of over Rs 5 lakh, additional SP (Crime) Devendra Patidar said.
The vehicle owners who were duped by the racket being run by the duo hail from Indore and neighbouring districts.
While introducing selves as the representatives of the Reliance General Insurance Company, the duo issued the fake and expired insurance policies to clients owning vehicles, spanning from school buses to trucks and cars.
According to the ASP (Crime) the fake and expired policies were issued by the duo to vehicle owners after getting from clients the premium money transferred to their bank accounts via online route.
"Many of the vehicle insurance policies issued to clients on behalf of the premier insurance company had actually expired in 2012, but they were renewed via forged documents," the ASP (Crime) added.
With none of the vehicles insured by fake insurance cover having been damaged in any accident, the racket continued to operate uninterrupted in the name of the premier company for 2-3 years, before the matter was reported by the company official to the Crime branch recently.
"We're taking the arrested youth's remand from court, to know about the whereabouts of his absconding partner. Sumit's grilling will also help us know the actual size and more networks of the racket," Patidar added.
