INDORE: Traffic police on Wednesday awarded citizens for their selfless contribution towards improving traffic in city. They had alerted cops via mobile application 'citizen cops' about traffic rule violators.
ASP traffic Anjana Tiwari said, "Every month, we receive several complaints from citizens who alert us about traffic rule violations on road.
We have awarded eight citizens on the basis of the credible information we received. Complaints of citizens are attended promptly."
Around 2,700 complaints were received by cops in four months from March to June and action was taken in 800 cases. Shubham Kanojiya, Piyush Gupta, Ashish Saxena and Rakesh Sharma were among those awarded.
"The first prize winner was awarded a smartphone by Lions Club while second prize winner was rewarded a cash prize of Rs 500," she said adding that such activities would boost morale of citizens and encourage others to be active and inform us.
"We are planning to give them citizen cop card or identity card, and the associated NGO Lions Club has also announced they will felicitate selected people for providing information on 'Citizen Cop' app," said ASP.
