Ujjain: Nagda police have arrested three persons allegedly for cheating 61 farmers ny not making total Rs 4.37 crore payments against crop purchased from them.
The accused dealth with 61 farmers in five areas — Nagda, Mahidpur, Khachrod Unhel, and Javra — in Ujjain district.
ASP rural Abhishek Ranjan said 61 farmers approached Nagda police and filed complaints alleging Rs 4.37 crore fraud. They stated that three persons had procured crops from them on the promise of payment but failed to make the transactions.
Following investigation, police registered a case against Saurabh Modi, Rajesh and Chhaggu. Later, the three were arrested.
During questioning, the accused revealed that they had purchased plots and jewellery with the money earned after selling the crops. Police have recovered documents of a house worth over Rs 1 crore, a plot valued at approximately Rs 30 lakh, a pickup vehicle and a car from the possession of the accused. tnn
