IMPHAL: In the face of the prevailing drought-like situation in the state owing to poor rainfall, chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday said his government would provide water pump sets to the farmers of the localities where water sources like rivers, streams and ponds are there within a few days.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of inspecting irrigation facilities under the minor irrigation department and paddy fields in Imphal West, Biren said hybrid seeds, which can be harvested in short duration, would also be made available to farmers.

He added that the state government would declare Manipur as a drought-hit state if the state does not receive enough rainfall. The chief minister further said the government has enough stock of fertilizers.
Hybrid seeds, which can be harvested within a short duration, would be made available to farmers, said Biren, who visited Maklang Makha Leikai, Maklang Dam, Taothong Maning Leikai, Lambal Dam, Lamdeng, Khamran and Khonghampat.
