IMPHAL: BJP workers today allegedly set afire a school building in Manipur's Imphal east district after a security guard of the school opened fire during celebration of the party's victory in the by-elections.
The police said that workers loyal to BJP candidate Th Bishwajit Singh, who won the by-election from Thongju assembly constituency, torched the UNACO school after the security guard fired a round to disperse rival BJP and Congress workers who clashed pelting stones at each other at Khongman Zone II.
Workers of both parties were injured in the clash, the police said. The BJP today made electoral history in the state by winning both the bypolls in Thangmeiband and Thongju constituencies defeating Congress candidates.
