Woman set afire by husband

hyderabad: a 26-year-old housewife, haritha, was allegedly set afire by her husband at their house in aliabad on saturday night. haritha, who was rushed to the osmania general hospital, died on sunday morning. she held her husband, p purushotham, as responsible for her death in the dying declaration. according to haritha's family members, purushotham killed haritha as she did not transfer her ration shop in his name.another motive for the murder, according to haritha's relatives was, purushotham, who was managing the ration shop was having an affair with a married woman residing at shamsherganj for the last couple of years. and he wanted to get rid of his wife to marry her, they alleged. haritha, who was married to purushotham six years ago, allegedly faced constant harassment from her husband for more dowry, her uncle said. according to police, haritha, in her dying statement accused her husband of attempting to kill her by setting her afire. after committing the crime, purushotham, burnt his hands in a cover up bid saying that he had tried to save her when she attempted suicide. purushotham was admitted to the osmania general hospital for treatment.
