Tribal student from Telangana bags 3rd rank in entrance for National Sports University in Imphal

HYDERABAD: A tribal student Harilal Ramavath, of Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential School, Balanagar in Hyderabad created a unique record by becoming the first student from Telangana to secure admission into National Sports University, Imphal, Manipur. He got 3rd rank in the national level entrance conducted by the university.
Harilal Ramavath is son of a handicapped father from a tribal hamlet in Nagarkurnool district.He always dreamt of becoming an athlete with an aim to do well at the national and international level. Harilal’s mother works as a labour to make both ends meet. This being the condition at home, Harilal pursued his ambition with determination and bagged a seat in the National Sports Universityi. “My goal is to secure an Olympic gold medal in athletics and make my country India and my state proud,” Harilal said.
RS Praveen Kumar, secretary, TTWREIS, congratulated Harilal for his achievement. He said for the first time in the history of public education sector in India, Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS) had established sports academies and created infrastructure to groom budding sports stars into national and international figures with the initiative of Telangana government.
Praveen Kumar said the launch of sports academies like judo, karate, cricket, horse riding, wrestling, chess, athletics, boxing, shooting, swimming, and water sports had been major transformative steps in cultivating a new generation of sports persons from marginalized background and thanked chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and welfare minister Koppula Eshwar.
“A few years down the line, we will see students from tribal welfare residential educational institutions from Telangana leave their inedible mark in the field of sports at national and international level,” he said.
