According to the weatherman, these thundershowers coincide with the summer season when the humidity percentage shoots up. In the last few days, the amount of humidity in the air across the south Telangana and Rayalaseema regions had climbed up beyond 75 per cent, thereby suitably making way for thunderstorms to hit the area.
"There is a heat trough on the South India land mass during the summer months. It originates in Maharashtra, cuts across South Telangana, Rayalaseema and travels up till the south of Tamil Nadu. This heat trough gets triggered if it meets moisture in its way. As the percentage of humidity was considerably high in this part of South India, the thundershowers resulted," said weather experts from the local Met office.
They further said that the high moisture content in air triggers thundershowers and the weather condition is therefore likely to stay like this for the next couple of days. Intermittent showers accompanied with heavy wind during the afternoon and evening hours is expected to take place in the next 48 hours. Various parts of South Telangana and several areas in Rayalaseema too witnessed similar thundershowers on Friday.
As a result of the thunderstorms, many trees were uprooted and the movement of vehicles adversely affected in the twin cities. There were however no reports of waterlogging as the thundershowers lasted only for a brief period.
