Telangana municipal minister KT Rama Rao: Mulling Modi's Gujarat law to relocate shrines on key roads

HYDERABAD: To relocate religious structures hampering traffic flow on arterial roads, the Telangana government will consider enacting a law modelled around Gujarat, Telangana municipal minister KT Rama Rao told the assembly on Thursday. He said, "No god would like to remain in a dust swirl. Also, devotees would also not like to worship their gods this way."
Responding to a query raised by LB Nagar MLA, D Sudheer Reddy, in the assembly on Thursday, KTR said, the legislation to relocate religious structures passed during Narendra Modi's tenure as Gujarat CM would be examined by Telangana.KTR, who has often attacked the Centre for not handing over defence lands to bolster infrastructure, said, the state could not take up several projects, including Patny-Suchitra and JBS-Shamirpet skyways due to non-cooperation by defence authorities.
He said for eight years, the state government wrote letters to defence ministry and CM met the minister with a request to hand over land to the state for building flyovers, but to no avail. "Defence lands are the property of state governments. We can create legal problems for defence authorities , but since defence is linked to national security, we don't put up hurdles. Now, Centre should come forward and hand over lands to the state," he said.
