HYDERABAD: The 53-year-old attender who suffered severe burn injuries while trying to rescue tahsildar Vijaya Reddy, who was burnt alive at her office in Abdullapurmet recently, succumbed on Monday.
According to Abdullapurment inspector Devender, Chandraiah suffered 40-50 percent burns while trying to rescue tahsildar Vijaya Reddy. On November 4, the assailant, K Suresh, from Gowrelly in Ranga Reddy district, doused Vijaya Reddy with petrol and set her ablaze.

“When Vijaya raised an alarm, driver Gurunadham and office attender Chandraiah rushed to her. Suresh sprinkled the fuel on both of them and they too suffered severe burns. Gurunadham who suffered severe burns, succumbed on November 5. Chandraiah died in the early hours of December 2,” the cop said.
After the post-mortem, police handed over Chandraiah’s body to family members and his final rites were performed at Rallaguda in Shamshabad. Chandraiah is survived by his wife Padma and two school going children. Chandraiah’s brother K Krishna said that government should provide employment to a family member and provide compensation. “My brother died while performing duties and trying to protect the Tehsildar. Government should help the family,”
