Hyderabad: A day after Swathi, wife of deceased Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Madhusudan Reddy, attempted suicide, Vanasthalipuram police on Saturday registered a domestic violence case against her in-laws for alleged harassment.
Vanasthalipuram sub-inspector Egoji said the case has been registered under 498-A (domestic violence), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Swathi’s father-in-law Bal Reddy, mother-in-law Sugunamma and other family members.

Police, however, have not yet called them for questioning and might summon them in a day or two.
Hospital authorities told Vanasthalipuram police that Swathi “is still under 48 hours observation as her condition is critical”. “We were informed that Swathi suffered grade III internal injuries,’’ Egoji told STOI.
On Friday morning, Swathi consumed Harpic toilet cleaner and attempted suicide allegedly due to harassment by her in-laws following the death of Masdhusudan Reddy. Her husband’s family members have been threatening her not to speak to the media as recently she clarified her stand claiming that Madhusudhan Reddy had committed suicide due to depression. Madhusudhan Reddy’s family members have been alleging that he killed himself in Seattle in USA due to differences with Swathi.
