Police arrest 13 legislators

Over 210 persons, including 13 legislators, were arrested in the city with regard to mass indefinite hunger strike and Raj Bhavan gherao protest calls given by the Telangana Student Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) on Monday.

HYDERABAD: Over 210 persons, including 13 legislators, were arrested in the city with regard to mass indefinite hunger strike and Raj Bhavan gherao protest calls given by the Telangana Student Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) on Monday.
The Hyderabad police arrested 150 persons, while their Cyberabad counterparts booked six cases and took 61 persons into custody.

The OU police arrested 50 members of Telangana Students Joint Action Committee led by V Sreenu near NCC gate when they took out a bike rally from Arts College to Raj Bhavan. As students resorted to stone pelting, police lobbed eight teargas shells, said additional DG (Law and Order) M Ratan in an official release.
TRS leaders E Rajender, T Harish Rao, K Tarakarama Rao , K Eshwar, K Prabhakar, TDP leaders Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Harishwar Reddy, Jogu Ramanna, Venugopalachary and senior BJP leader B Dattatreya were taken into custody near Ravindra Bharathi while they were heading to the OU campus from the assembly.
Similarly, Congress MPs G Vivek, G Sukhinder Reddy, M Jagannatham, Keshav Rao, Madhu Yashki Goud and MLA Jupalli Krishna Rao were arrested near Ram Nagar while they were on the way to OU after attending a meeting at Exhibition Grounds, Nampally.
All the arrested leaders and students were shifted to the Falaknuma, Trimulgherry and Punjagutta police stations from where they were let off later in the evening. All the arrested leaders staged dharna at the police stations.

Talking to the media at OU, Hyderabad police commissioner AK Khan said as per the Supreme Court's directive no meeting of student organisations in OU could be held in the campus premises. without obtaining prior permission from the VC and the police commissioner and no outsiders could take part in such meetings.
"So, we are arresting outsiders who are violating the Supreme Court's directive by trying to enter the campus to participate in the protest and students who try to take out a rally were arrested for violating Section 144 of the CrPC," Khan said.
