VIJAYAWADA: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the state home secretary to file a report within two weeks on the killing of rowdy-sheeter Vallabhaneni Durga Prasad alias Pilli Prasad in the police station premises here in the early hours of June 8.
Acting on a petition filed by Human Rights Forum leader K Sudha, the assistant registrar (law) of NHRC issued a notice to the state home secretary calling for a detailed report on the incident.
The HRF, along with other human rights organisations like the APCLC, People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and Organisation for Protection of Democratic Rights (OPDR) had filed a petition before the NHRC alleging that the then Machavaram sub-inspector G Ratna Raju shot dead Pilli Prasad in the guise of self-defence.
The state high court too issued a directive to the home secretary to file a counter affidavit on the killings of Pilli Prasad and another history-sheeter Kodeboyina Srinivasa Rao alias Budda Santan. Budda Santan was killed inside the Governorpet police station here last month. APCLC vice-president Subhash Chandra Bose had filed a writ petition in the HC against the deaths.
