HYDERABAD: Four ministers were pitted against a single member. Yet the legislator emerged victorious by maintaining his cool, making his point with clarity and keeping the treasury benches on tenterhooks.

His strong words on the partisan attitude of the government towards Telengana evoked strong protests from the ruling party members during the debate on Krishna waters in the assembly on Saturday.
Undaunted by the interruptions on two occassions by roads and buildings minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao and health minister Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, Chandrasekhar Rao continued his diatribe against the government. Congress legislator Palvai Goverdhan Reddy and TRS affiliated member R Papa Rao came in support of Chandrasekhar Rao.
Major irrigation minister Kadiyam Srihari and panchayat raj minister N Janardhan Reddy tried to obstruct the TRS member and charged him with playing with the sentiments of the people by raking up regional aspirations. "Yes, we are fighting for separate statehood as we were deprived of water," Chandrasekhar Rao said proudly.
He strongly defended his stand on the issue of increasing the height of Almatti dam saying that Mahabubnagar would get water on gravity basis, even as the TDP members raised a strong protest. Unmindful of intervention by Sivaprasada Rao, who asked the chair''s permission to intervene, Chandrasekhar Rao continued his hard hitting speech.
The Congress members, including Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, raised protests against TDP members interrupting Chandrasekhar Rao forcing the health minister to retreat.
"The issue of considering the proposal is left to the government. Make Almatti an inter-state project and constitute an autonomous Krishna river water authority to allocate water to the three states. Only this will stop the `dadagiri'' of Karnataka," he said.
