KADAPA: In a barbaric act, two hotel employees were branded with hot iron rods by their employer on charges of stealing. This shocking incident came to light on Monday, when one of the victims filed a complaint with police after escaping from the clutches of the hotelier, who held them captive for three days.
Khader Basha is critical as he suffered a severe injuries.
In a savage punishment, the hotelier scalded Basha with a hot iron rod, shalshed him with blades and knives besides flogging him. He was barely able to speak and stand. Doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences where Khader was admitted, along with another worker Murabi Basha, said it would take more than a week for them to recover.
The harsh punishment was meted out to Khader and Murabi by Mantra Hotel owner Yashwant Reddy. "He along with his friend Sivaramakrishna Reddy and another person tortured the duo for three days. They wanted the duo to confess to their crime," sources said.
Yashwant branded Khader and Murabi with a red hot iron rod on October 21 after confining them to a dark room in the hotel, holding them responsible for a missing bag which contained a gold necklace and earrings. The missing bag belonged to Yashwant's mother.
When other employees - Mahesh, Chand Basha and Mahboob Basha - said they suspected the role of Khader and Murabi for the theft, the hotel owner immediately held them captives and subjected them to inhuman punishment.
"Instead of approaching the police over the theft, Yashwant took law into his hands and brutally abused his employees," a police official said.
It's not clear as to who stole the bag. Police registered a case against Yashwant, his two friends and five hotel employees. "We have filed cases under Sections 343, 324 and 506 of Indian Penal Code," I Town CI Shaukat Ali Khan told TOI. Yashwant and his friends have been charged with voluntarily causing hurt by weapons and wrongful confinement under relevant sections of the IPC.
While five accused were arrested and sent to remand, police teams have been sent in search of absconding Yashwant and his friends.
