HYDERABAD: A conman who allegedly duped gullible youth by promising jobs in Saudi Arabia was arrested by the police on Saturday. Maqsood Ahmed, 45, a resident of Balanagar, collected Rs 1.60 lakh from four persons in this regard.
When the aspirants sought the money back, Ahmed threatened them with dire consequences. He also claimed that he was working as "co-chairman of police welfare clinic" at Goshamahal which is a fictitious organisation.

Explaining the modus operandi of the fraudster, Mahankali inspector M Narayana said Ahmed used to lure unemployed youth promising them job opportunities in Saudi Arabia by giving advertisements in newspapers.
After collecting money and documents from the aspirants, Ahmed would take them to Mumbai, lodge them in a hotel and escape. The inspector said Ahmed might have cheated more than five persons in the twin cities.
He was arrested after the police raided his hideout at Balanagar. A case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of Indian Penal Code was booked against Ahmed and remanded him in judicial custody. The Mahankali police is invesitgating the case.
