hyderabad: the vegesna padmavathi school for physically handicapped's project on 'enabling the disabled by differently abled' has been selected for the national children's science congress-2001 to be held in pune, and the indian science congress, at lucknow in january, 2002. it would be the only project to be presented at the two programmes by a disabled child.the project was selected as the best under the 'materials' category. the school has been rendering yeoman's service for crippled polio-affected children and orthopaedically handicapped children since 1988 and is situated in hayathnagar in ranga reddy district. it provides education up to class 10, physiotherapy, surgical corrections, free boarding and lodging and prosthetics free of cost. the school has 150 students, said vamsee ramaraju, founder managing trustee and chief functionary of the vegesna foundation. incidentally, the student group's leader, d nagaraju, was picked up by ramaraju, while begging on the cochin express. after care and treatment in the school, nagaraju has blossomed into one of its brightest students apart from being a gifted singer and artist.
