HYDERABAD: The employees of the National Thermal Power Corporation’s southern region headquarters contributed Rs 20,000 for disabled persons to buy artificial limbs, on the occasion of Independence Day, here on Friday.
Executive director of NTPC (southern region) S V Moorthy, who unfurled the national flag at its headquarters in Secunderabad, presented a cheque of Rs 20,000 to five disabled persons.

Several officials, employees and their families attended the function. The Ameerpet branch of Agarwal Samaj, a social organisation distributed artificial legs to 50 handicapped people in the city.
In a similar gesture, the Rotary Club of Bhagyanagar distributed scholarships to students. District governor of the club J A S Giri hoisted the flag. A colourful parade was held at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) on the occasion. Former minister P Srinivasa Reddy hoisted the flag.
Nims director K Subba Rao expressed happiness over the Supreme Court’s judgment to ban the capitation fee by professional colleges. General manager of the SCR T Stanley Babu unfurled the flag at the Railway Recreation Club grounds. He announced cash awards to various contingents which participated in the parade.
